Find out how to read The New Yorker for free online with these updated tips. 

In other words, you can bypass The New Yorker paywall.

You can continue reading unlimited The New Yorker website articles, without subscription.

These are workable methods that can bypass The New Yorker paywall.

They work for both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers.


1. Clear browsing data, cache and cookies

This simple trick still get you to read all the The New Yorker site articles free of charge.

When you come to the blocked article, you clear the recent history of your browser.

Mozilla Firefox Browser:

Click "History" at the menu bar which is at the top of your computer screen.

Then click "Clear Recent History..."

A box pops up, and make sure the "Browsing & download history", "Cookies" and "Cache" are checked (ticked box).

 Then go back to the blocked The New Yorker article and reload the page.

This time the article should appear in full.

 When you come to the following blocked article, again you click "Clear Recent History..." and reload the page.

Google Chrome Browser:

The steps are similar to the Firefox browser above to bypass the paywall.

Click the tiny three dots (Customize and control Google Chrome) at the top right hand corner, and the context menu pops up.

Place your cursor over "More tools", then move it over to "Clear browsing data...".

Next click "Clear browsing data".

A box pops up.

NOTE: Make sure the "Cookies and other site data" is checked.

Click the "Clear data" button.

Now go back to the blocked article and reload the page.

When you come to the following blocked article, just repeat the process of clearing the browsing data.

You would not run out of free articles from newyorker.com website again.


2. 12 feet Ladder

This is another easy way to read every The New Yorker site articles, by just adding 12ft.io/ before the article URL.  

Mozilla Firefox Browser:

This is what you do:

Go to The New Yorker homepage.

Click the article which you want to read.

For example you want to read the article. "The Ascent of the Supermodel" by Carrie Battan.

The article is blocked by the paywall.

Now go to the Firefox address bar at the top of the page, and you can see this URL.

https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2024/07/22/inside-the-trump-plan-for-2025

Add 12ft.io/ in front of the URL.

Now it should look like this:

12ft.io/https://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2024/07/22/inside-the-trump-plan-for-2025

Press on the "Enter" key, or click the arrow icon at the URL.

The URL would instantly change to:

https://12ft.io/proxy

The complete article "The Ascent of the Supermodel" appears right below.

To read the next free The New Yorker article, again add 12ft.io/ in front of its URL.

Google Chrome Browser:

For Chrome browser, the steps are the same; add 12ft.io/ in front of the URL of the article which you want to read.


3.Temporary Containers add-on

Mozilla Firefox Browser:

This method only works for Firefox.

First install the Firefox Temporary Containers add-on.

After you have installed it, you can start to read all the articles of The New Yorker, without being blocked by its paywall anymore.

This is what you do:

Go to The New Yorker home page.

Right click any of the article title which you want to read.

A menu pops up next to the article title.

Click "Open link in new Temporary Container tab".

It will open a new tab with the full unblocked article.

To read the next article, again right click the article title.

Similarly, a menu pops up next to the article title.

Then click "Open link in new Temporary Container tab".

It opens a new tab with the another New Yorker article.


4. Archive.Today

Mozilla Firefox Browser:

Use the free archive site called Archive.Today, which stores snapshots of web pages.

If the article which you want to read has already archived, you can see it right there.

If not, then you have to load to archive it, then only can view the article.

This is what you do:

Go to The New Yorker homepage.

Right click the title of the article which you want to read.

A menu box pops up, click "Copy Link".

Go to the Archive.Today site.

Paste the article URL in the space provided under "My url is alive and I want to archive its content".

If the article has already been archived, you can read it right there.

If not, you have to load to archive it, then you can view the complete unblocked article.

Google Chrome Browser:

The procedure is the same as what I have just explained for Firefox.


5. Saved to Pocket

This method you use the free social bookmarking service called Pocket to bypass The New Yorker paywall.

You save the blocked article to the Pocket account.

From there you can read the full unblocked The New Yorker articles.

It works for both Firefox and Chrome browser.

6. Disable JavaScript 

This is an easy way to get around The New Yorker website paywall for both Firefox and Google Chrome.

Mozilla Firefox Browser:

Open your Firefox browser homepage.

Copy the following line and paste it into the Firefox address bar: about:config

Hit the Enter key.

Next click the button: "Accept the Risk and Continue".

Disable Firefox JavaScript Bypass Paywalls

Now type this: javascript.enabled in the search box provided.

You should see "javascript.enabled" appears under it.

Double click anywhere within the javascript.enabled box to change the value from "true" to "false".

Now go to the blocked The Athletic article, to reload the page.

The full article should be unblocked right away.

REMINDER: Remember to activate the JavaScript function back after used. If not, some websites properly, others may not work at all.

Google Chrome Browser:

This is how to disable Chrome browser JavaScript to bypass The New Yorker paywall.

Open your Google Chrome.

At the upper-right of the Chrome window, click the Chrome menu icon (three dots).

A drop-down menu appears.

Click "Settings".

On the left side of the screen, click "Privacy and security".

On the right side of the screen, click "Site Settings".

On the Site Settings page, scroll to the bottom of the screen, until you come to the "Content" section, click "JavaScript".

It opens a new page.

Under the "Customize behavior" section, click the "Add" button next to "Not allowed to use Javascript".

A "Add a site" box pops up, type this line inside space provided.

[*.]newyorker.com

Click the "Add" button.

Now go to The New Yorker homepage, you can see all the text, but no images at all.

But you can read all the articles unblocked, but without images or pictures.

With all these methods, you can bypass The New Yorker website paywall, and you can read countles articles free without subscription for now.


7. Bypass Paywalls Clean extension

This is one of the simplest way to read The New Yorker stories for free.

Install a browser plugin, and you can access all its digital content.

8. Textise

Use the text-only and accessibility tools Textise to bypass The New Yorker paywall.
