5. Click on the "Clear data" button.

6. Now go back to the blocked article and reload the page.

7. When you come to the following blocked article, just repeat the process of clearing the browsing data.

8. You would not run out of free articles from newyorker.com website again.


2. 12 feet no javascript proxy browser

This is another easy way to read every The New Yorker site articles, by just adding 12ft.io/ before the article URL.  

MOZILLA FIREFOX BROWSER:

This is what you do:

1. Go to The New Yorker homepage.

2. Click on the article which you want to read.

For example you want to read the article. "The Ascent of the Supermodel" by Carrie Battan.

3. The article is blocked by the paywall.

4. Now go to the Firefox address bar at the top of the page, and you can see this URL.

5. Add 12ft.io/ in front of the URL.

6. Now it should look like this:

12ft.io/https://www.newyorker.com/culture/cultural-comment/the-ascent-of-the-supermodel

7. Press on the "Enter" key, or click on the arrow icon at the URL.

8. The URL would instantly change to:

https://12ft.io/proxy

9. The complete article "The Ascent of the Supermodel" appears right below.

To read the next free The New Yorker article, again add cache: in front of its URL.

GOOGLE CHROME BROWSER:

For Chrome browser, the steps are the same; add 12ft.io/ in front of the URL of the article which you want to read.


3.Temporary containers add-on

MOZILLA FIREFOX BROWSER:

First install the Firefox Temporary Containers add-on.

After you have installed it, you can start to read all the articles of The New Yorker, without being blocked by its paywall anymore.

This is what you do:

1. Go to The New Yorker home page.

2. Right click on any of the article title which you want to read.

3. A menu pops up next to the article title.

4. Archive.Today

MOZILLA FIREFOX BROWSER:

Use the free archive site called Archive.Today, which stores snapshots of web pages.

If the article which you want to read has already archived, you can see it right there.

If not, then you have to load to archive it, then only can view the article.

There are two ways of using the Archive.Today tool to read The New Yorker articles free online.

Use Archive.Today site

1. Go to The New Yorker homepage.

2. Right click on the title of the article which you want to read.

For ease of use, you can install the Archive.Today extension to your Firefox browser.

Get the Firefox Archive.Today extension from here.

After you have installed and pinned the extension, you can see its icon (globe with the share symbol) at the toolbar.

Bypass The New Yorker Paywall

There are three (3) ways to use the Archive.Today extension to unblock The New Yorker content.

Click on Archive.Today icon

1.When you come to the blocked article, click on the Archive Today icon at the toolbar.

2. It takes you to the Archive Today site.

3. If the article has already been archived, then you can read it right away.

4. If not, you have to load to archive it, then you can view it.

2. A context menu pops up, then click on "Search archive.today for page".

3. Similarly it leads you to the Archive Today site.

4. Again, if that article has already been archived, you can see it on the site, and if not, then you have to load to archive it.

1. The third way is when you are The New Yorker homepage, or at the search engine results pages.

2. Right click on the article title.

3. A context menu box pops up, move your mouse cursor from "Archive" to "Archive link" and "Search link".

5. When you click on the "Archive link", and if the article is already archived, you can read it right away.

6. If not, then automatically it will start loading to archive it for you.

7. When you click on the "Search link", and if the article is already archived, you can see it right there.

9. You have to click on the hyperlink "archive this url", then click the "save" button. 

10. Then wait for it to archive it.

GOOGLE CHROME BROWSER:

For Chrome browser, the steps are the same as Firefox which I have just explained above.

5. Saved to Pocket

This method you use the free social bookmarking service called Pocket to bypass The New Yorker paywall.

You save the blocked article to the Pocket account.

From there you can read the full unblocked The New Yorker articles.

This method works for both Firefox and Chrome.

First you need to sign up a free Pocket account to use this free service.

You can sign up from here.

MOZILLA FIREFOX BROWSER:

For Firefox, the Pocket tool is already included into the browser.

You can see its gray color icon (pocket with the letter V) on its toolbar, which is at the top right hand corner of your laptop screen.

There are three (3) ways to save the blocked articles to your Pocket account.

1. Click on the article which you want to read.

2. It is blocked by its paywall.

3. Ignore it, just click on the gray color Pocket icon at the toolbar.

4. A box pops up below the Pocket icon at the toolbar, and the icon changes to red color.

6. It takes you to "Saves" of your Pocket account.

7. Here you can see the article title together with its accompanied image.

8. To read the article, click on either the article title or the image.

NOTE: Do not click on the "View Original" link. It will take you to its website, where the blocked article is.

9. After reading it, to get rid the article from your Saves list, click on dustbin icon above the article.

10. Similarly you can go back to Saves, to click on the three dots below the saved article, then click "Delete".

1. Go to The New Yorker homepage, right click on the article title.

2. A context menu box pops up, click on "Save Link to Pocket".

3. Just like the First Way, a box pops up below the Pocket icon at the toolbar, and the icon changes to red color.

5. It goes to your Pocket account, where the article is listed under "Saves".

6. Here you can see the article title with an image.

2. A context menu box pops up, this time click on "Copy Link".

3. Go to your Pocket account, click on the + plus symbol (Save a URL).

5. Then click on "Add" button.

6. The article is now saved under "Saves".

7. Again, to read the complete unblocked The New Yorker article, click on the article title or the image.

GOOGLE CHROME BROWSER:

1. First you need to install the Pocket extension to your Chrome browser.

2. Click here to install the Chrome Pocket extension,

3. Next pin the Pocket extension onto the Chrome toolbar.

4. To do that, click on the Chrome extensions icon (gray color puzzle piece) at the toolbar, which is at the top right hand corner of the computer screen.

5. A context menu pops up.

6. Click on the gray color thumb tack icon next to "Save to Pocket".

 7. The thumb tack icon will change to blue color and at the same time, red outlined Pocket icon (a pocket with the letter V) appears at the toolbar.

8. Now you have pinned the Pocket extension onto the Chrome toolbar.

How to save and read The New Yorker articles

There are two ways to do it.

Click on archive.Today icon

1. Click on The New Yorker article which you want to read.

2. It is blocked by its paywall.

3. Ignore it, click on the red outline color Pocket icon at the toolbar.

4. The red outlined Pocket icon turns to full red color, except with the white V outline, and at the same time a box pops up below.

5. Inside the box is the article title together with its image.

6. Click on "Saves" at the bottom left hand corner.

7. It goes to your Pocket account, where you can see the article title together with its image.

8. To read the full The New Yorker article, click on the title or the image.

This step is the same as the Third Way of Firefox as explained above.

1. Right click on the article URL which you want to read.

3. Go to your Pocket account, click on the + plus symbol (Save a URL).

6. Disable javascript plugins

This is an easy way to get around The New Yorker website paywall for both Firefox and Google Chrome.

You just install any of these free plugin or extension to disable the JavaScript of your browser. 

MOZILLA FIREFOX BROWSER:

This is what you do:

1. For Firefox browser, click here to install Disable JavaScript plugin.

2. Then click on the blue color "+Add to Firefox" button.

3. Next a box pops up at the top of the page, click "Add".

4. Immediately you can see the its small icon (green dot with the white initial JS) at the address bar.

5. When the icon is in green color, it means the JavaScript is still ON.

6. Now go to The New Yorker homepage.

7. With your mouse cursor drag the small green color icon to the LEFT, to change it to RED color.

8. Immediately the New Yorker homepage will reload and this time without the image, except the text.

9. You click on any of its titles and you get the complete article together with pictures or illustrations.

10. Now, you can read unlimited The New Yorker articles without having to be a paid subscriber.

NOTE: For Firefox users, you can also use another similar disable JavaScript add-on called YesScript2.

When you initially installed the plugin or extension, the icon at the address bar is a small gray dot with y2 initial.

Once you access The New Yorker homepage, it will automatically changes to RED color.

It means the JavaScript is turned OFF.

In other words, now you can read all the articles you want without any blockage from its metered paywall.

GOOGLE CHROME BROWSER:

1. For Google Chrome users, click here to install Disable JavaScript add-on.

2. Then click on the blue color "Add to Chrome" button.

3. Next a box pops up at the top of the page, click on "Add extension".

4. Now you have installed the Disable JavaScript plugin.

5. Pin it onto your Chrome address bar by clicking on the small extension icon (piece of a jigsaw puzzle symbol).

6. Then you click on the pin icon (pushpin symbol) and it changes to blue color.

7. Immediately the Disable JavaScript icon (green round dot with the white initial JS) at the address bar.

8. Go over to The New Yorker homepage.

9. Used your mouse cursor to drag the small green color Disable JavaScript plugin icon to the LEFT and it changes to RED color.

10. Immediately the New Yorker homepage will reload and this time without the image, except the text.

11. Now you can click on any of its titles and you get the complete article together with pictures or illustrations.

NOTE: You can also use another similar plugin called ScriptBlock.

After installing this free Chrome plugin, you can see its gray color icon (closed tag symbol) on the address bar.

Once you access The New Yorker homepage, the icon will change to RED color.

You will notice The New Yorker homepage is without any image.

Now you can read its unlimited complete articles for free right away.
