Find out how to get around both the Spectator paywalls, to read unlimited articles for free.
1. Google cached pages
It works for both Firefox and Chrome browser.
This method works for both The Spectator UK and the USA Edition.
But there is a difference here.
For the The Spectator UK edition, you can see the full article in the "Full version" with picture(s).
But for The Spectator World or The Spectator USA site, you have to click the "Text-only version".
You can only view the article, but no picture(s).
It is explained below.
The Spectator (UK)
Go to The Spectator UK homepage.
Click on the article which you want to read.
For example you want to read this article from The Spectator UK, "When did Trump supporters become fans of cancel culture? by Bredan O'Neill.
Now go to the Firefox or Chrome address bar at the top of the page, and you can see this URL:
https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/when-did-trump-supporters-become-fans-of-cancel-culture/
Add cache: in front of the URL.
Now it should look like this:
cache:https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/when-did-trump-supporters-become-fans-of-cancel-culture/
Press on the "Enter" key.
To read the next free The Spectator article, just add cache: in front of its URL.
The Spectator World (USA)
Go to The Spectator World USA homepage.
For instance you want to read the article, "America’s Summer of Discontent, 250 years ago".
Go to Firefox or Chrome browser address bar at the top of the page, and you can see this URL:
https://thespectator.com/topic/america-summer-discontent-250-years-ago/
Add cache: in front of the URL.
Now it should look like this:
cache:https://thespectator.com/topic/america-summer-discontent-250-years-ago/
Press on the "Enter" key.
Next, you need to click "Text-only version".
2. Archive.Today
This is an easy way to bypass The Spectator paywall.
3. Bypass Paywalls Clean extension
This method also can bypass The Spectator UK and US edition paywalls.
It works for both Firefox and Chrome browsers.
For Firefox, refer to this: "Install Bypass Paywalls Clean extension for Firefox" tutorial.
For Chrome refer to this: "How to install Bypass Paywalls Clean extension for Chrome" tutorial.
4. Textise
Use the text-only tool Textise to get past The Spectator paywall.
You can view the full text blocked article, but without picture or image.
Textise is an Internet tool that can create a text only version of almost any web page.
This is what you do:
Go to Textise site.
Copy the blocked article URL and paste it in the box provided.
Click the "Textise" button.
Instantly the full article appears, but without any picture.
To view the article, you have to scroll it down.
