Find out how to bypass The New York Review of Books paywall, so you can read all its online content for free without an account.
You don't even have to register for a free account with nybooks.com just to read one free article.
This is an updated post, because my earlier tip using the Google cached pages to unblock its paywall does not work anymore.
By the way, the 12ft ladder site is not high enough to get through the New York Review of Books paywall.
Presently there is no complimentary article from The New York Review Of Books website.
When you click on any of its articles, it only shows a paragraph of two, then the text starts fading off...
Then it followed with its subscription details, and also requesting you to register for a free account to read just that particular article.

The New York Review Of Books Archive free access
Bypass the New York Reviews Of Books paywall
1. Bypass Paywalls Clean extension
This method works for both Firefox and Chrome browser.
MOZILLA FIREFOX BROWSER:
2. After you have installed and pinned it to your Firefox toolbar, you can see this extension icon.
3. Now go to the New York Review of Books homepage.
4. On top of the Bypass Paywalls Clean icon is a blue box with the word "OFF".
6. Then click on the blue color toggle button.
10. Now you can read all the online articles free from February 1,1963 to the latest copy from The New York Review of Books Archive.
GOOGLE CHROME BROWSER:
Get the Bypass Paywalls Clean Extension for Chrome here.
2. Archive.Today
Use the web archiving site Archive.Today which stores snapshots of web pages, to access blocked The New York Review of Books article.
There are two ways of using this archive site to get all its online articles free.
Use Archive.Today site
This is what you do:
1. Go to Archive.Today.
2. Paste the article URL in the space provided under "My url is alive and I want to archive its content".
3. Next click the "save" button.
4. If the article has been archived, it will state there on the site together with the snapshot of the article.
5. If not, it will start archiving, or you have to archive it.
6. Once it has finishing archiving, you can view the complete article.
Here is an example of the archived article, "Mozart The Modernist" from the November 2, 2023 issue.
Archive.Today extension
For ease of use, you can install its extension to your browser.
Get the Firefox Archive.Today extension from here.
After you have installed the extension, pin it to its toolbar.
The Archive.Today icon is a globe with the share symbol.
There are three (3) ways to access The New York Review of Books articles with the Archive Today extension.
Click on Archive.Today icon
1. Go to The New York Review of Books homepage to click on the article which you want to read
2. As it is, the article is blocked by its paywall.
3. Ignore it, instead click on the Archive.Today icon at the toolbar.
4. It takes you to the Archive Today site.
3. If the article has already been archived, you can read it right away.
4. If not, then you have to archive it.
Click on article text
1. At the blocked page, right click anywhere on the text area, a context menu box pops up.
2. Then click on "Search archive.today for page".
3. Similarly it takes you to the Archive Today site.
4. Again if the page have already been archived, you can see it right there.
5. If not, then you have to archive it, before you can view it.
Click on article title
1. The third way is when you are at The New York Review of Books homepage or from the search engine results pages.
2. Right click on the article title.
3. The context menu box pops up, move your mouse cursor from "Archive" to "Archive link" and "Search link".
4. Click on any of these two options,
5. When you click on the "Archive link", and if the article is already archived, you can read it right away.
6. If not, then automatically it will start loading to archive it for you.
7. When you click on the "Search link", and if the article is already archived, you can see it right there.
8. But if the article is still not archived, it says "No results".
9. You have to click on the hyperlink "archive this url", then click the "save" button.
10. Then wait for it to archive it.
CHROME BROWSER:
The steps of using the extension for Chrome are the same as what I have explained above for Firefox browser.

3. Press escape key
This method works only with the Chrome browser.
It is a bit tricky, but it can still bypass The New York Review of Books paywall.
The timing of pressing down the "Esc" key of your keyboard is crucial.
You might not get it to work at the first attempt.
To get the full article free, you may need to try a few times.
This is what you do:
1. After you have clicked on the blocked article, just as it starts to load quickly press down on the "Esc" key of your keyboard.
2. Hold down the button for about ten seconds or more.
3. Then let go of your finger.
4. Now you should be able to view the full article as it is.
5. If it doesn't work, try again.
These are workable ways how to bypass The New York Review of Books paywall as of October 2023.
