Back in 2024, I showed you an easy way to download Internet Archive borrowed books with Chrome extension called Internet Archive Downloader.
There are two categories of books in Internet Archive:
- Free public-domain books you can download immediately
- Books you must borrow or that have restricted access due to copyright/licensing
Unfortunately this method cannot work in Chrome browser anymore.
But it can still works in Mozilla Firefox browser.

Anyway, for Chrome users, you can use another extension to download books from Archive.org Lending Library.
But it is not as good as the Firefox extension.
It is a bit grainy and has watermarks "DEMO VERSION" in every page.
Download Borrowed Books From Internet Archive In Chrome
The extension is called Archive.org Flipbook to PDF Downloader.
These are the three key steps you need to do:
STEP ONE: Install Archive.org Flipbook to PDF Downloader
1. Go to Chrome web store to download Archive.org Flipbook to PDF Downloader.
2. Then pin this extension on your Chrome toolbar (top right hand corner).
STEP TWO: Go To Internet Archive Library
For those who still do not have a free account with Internet Archive, just go here to register.
1. Log into your Internet Archive account.
2. Go to Internet Archive Library.to find the book(s) which you want to download.
3. Click the blue color "Borrow" button.
4. Now it changes to the red color "Return now" button.
STEP THREE: Scan, Download & Save Book
1. Go to toolbar and click the Archive.org Flipbook to PDF Downloader icon.
2. A box pops up, click the gray color "SCAN PAGES" button.
3. It starts scanning, as the pages flipping until the last page.
4. Then click the red color "STOP SCAN" button.
5. Now pull down the slider on the right side of the box, and click the gray color "SAVE AS PDF" button.
6. Once it has finished downloading, it opens the page for you to save it to your laptop.
7. It's default filename is "flipbook", so you have to change it to the actual book title
8. Finally click the "Save" button.
9. You have download and saved the borrowed book from Internet Archive Lending Library.
10. After you are done, remember to return the book back to Internet Archive.
11. You do it by clicking the red color "Return Now" button.
That's all you need to do to download and save Internet Archive borrowed books with Google Chrome.
