How To Download Internet Archive Borrowed Books In Firefox 2026

A quick tip how to download Internet Archive books in Firefox with Internet Archive Downloader.

Basically there are two categories of books in Internet Archive.

  • Free public-domain books you can download immediately, or
  • Books you must borrow or that have restricted access due to copyright/licensing.

Of course those free public domain books, you can download directly using its "Download Options".

But for those borrowed books from its Lending Library, you can still download them in Firefox with an extension.

Now let's find out how to download and save books from Internet Archive with Mozilla Firefox browser.


How To Download Internet Archive Borrowed Books In Firefox

These are the three key steps:  

STEP ONE: Install Internet Archive Downloader

1. Go to Firefox Add-On page to download and install Internet Archive Downloader extension.

2. Then pin the extension on to your Firefox toolbar (top right hand corner).

STEP TWO: Go To Internet Archive Library

If you still do not have a free account with Internet Archive, click here to register.

1. Log into your Internet Archive account.

2. Go to Internet Archive Library.to find the book(s) which you want to download.

3. Click the blue color "Borrow" button.

How To Download Internet Archive Lending Library Books

STEP THREE: Download & Save Book 

1. Right below the book preview area, this "Download" button appears.

2. Click it, and it will change to green color and now it says "Downloading".

3. The blue color "Borrow" button changes to red color "Return now" button.

4. Once the green bar is full, it means you have successfully downloaded the book.

5. If your Windows settings is set to "Downloads", you can find the book there. 

6. You have download and saved the borrowed book from Internet Archive Lending Library.

7. The red color "Return now" automatically changes back to the blue color "Borrow" button.

8. That means you don't have to manually click to return the book.

9. Furthermore it is clearer and no watermark.

That's all you need to do to download books from the Internet Archive Lending Library in Firefox.

You do it by clicking the red color "Return Now" button.
