How To Prevent Firefox From Updating Automatically And Disable Silent Updates

|
There is a lot of disappointment and even anger each time there is a Firefox update. Complaints ranging from turning off AVG safe search add-on, losing bookmark and themes to password cannot be saved.

The latest Firefox updated version 22.0 is giving a many folks a big problem, so to speak. They are complaining (including yours truly) about having overblown size web pages.

Here are two ways to prevent or stop Firefox from updating automatically and disable silent updates.

i) Select Update Option

1. Go Tools. Click on Options.

2. Next click on Advanced.

3. Select Update tab.

4.Click or check mark the option: Check for updates, but let me choose whether to install them.

5. Uncheck or click on it to remove the tick in the check box in front of: Use background service to install updates

6. Then click on OK button below.

This is how it is done as shown below:

ii) Disable Mozilla Maintenance Service

1. Go to Start. Click on Control Panel.

2. Click on Programs and Features.

3. Look for Mozilla Maintenance Service.

4. Right click on it, then click on the word Uninstall.

Another way to uninstall this service is by typing this line: C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Maintenance Service\uninstall.exe in the search programs and files box . (You can see the box by clicking on the Windows logo at the left bottom corner of your screen).

When you type in the above line, instantly a menu will pop up with the word: Uninstall.exe

Click on it and a dialogue box called User Account Control will pop up. Click Yes button.

One irritating thing is you will now always be prompted with a User Account Control dialog box.
