How to disable JavaScript with DevTools to bypass paywall

This is how to disable Javascript with DevTools to bypass paywall tutorial.

I have already showed you how to turn off JavaScript in your browser in many bypass paywall tutorials.

Here is one of them, for bypassing The Athletic site paywall.

In addition, you can also use a browser extension, like Web Developer, and JavaScript Disable Chrome.

I have also explained how to disable JavaScript with uBlock Origin to bypass paywall.

This post, I am showing you how to use the DevTools (developer tools) for both Firefox and Chrome to bypass paywall.

This way of disabling JavaScript to get around the paywall is for each article at a time.

In other words, to read each article, you need to disable the JavaScript. 

How to disable Javascript with DevTools to bypass paywall

I would explain step-by-step how to use the DevTools aka developer tools to get past paywall of a publication website.

Disable JavaScript in Firefox to bypass paywall

This is what you do:

When at the paywall article, press F12 key and the developer tools pops up.

Then click the three dots at the top right hand corner.

A  menu box pops up, click "Settings".

It opens the settings page.

Go to "Advanced settings" and click on the small box in front of "Disable JavaScript.

Immediately the paywall is removed from the article.

Close the DevTools by clicking the X symbol, and you can view the full unblocked article.

Remember you only disable JavaScript for that particular page.

When go to the next article, it would be blocked again by its paywall.

So you have to re-disable JavaScript for the new article. 

Here is another method to disable Firefox JavaScript.

Press F12 to bring up the DevTools.

Click "Debugger" tab, and the Settings icon (cog wheel) appears at the right hand corner.

Click the cog wheel, a box pops up, click "Disable JavaScript".

Instantly the locked-out article changes.  

Close the WebTools and you can read the full unlocked article.

Disable JavaScript in Chrome to bypass paywall

This is what you do:

When at the paywall article, press F12 key and the developer tools pops up.

Then click the three dots at the top right hand corner.

A menu box pops up, click "Run command".

Another box pops up, type in: JavaScript.

You can see the "Disable JavaScript" together with the Debugger button.

Click on the blue color strip, and you have disabled Chrome JavaScript.

To remind you that JavaScript is disabled, Chrome shows the Disabled JavaScript icon (triangle with an exclamation mark) next to Sources.

At the same time, you also see this Disabled JavaScript icon in the address bar.

Reload the blocked article first, then only click the X icon to close the DevTools.

Now you can see the full unblocked article, but probably without any picture or video.

Just like Firefox, when you want to read the following article, you have to disable JavaScript again.

Here is another way to disable JavaScript of Chrome with WebTools

Press 12 key to bring up the WebTools.

Click on the cog or gear wheel, and it opens the settings page.

Scroll all the way down to "Debugger".

Click on the small box in front of "Disable JavaScript.

Reload the blocked page first, before closing the WebTools.

You should see the full article without the paywall banner.

Similarly, to read read the following article, you have to disable JavaScript again.
