How to use Google Translate to bypass paywall to read articles for free

|

Let's see how to use Google Translate to bypass paywall, in order to access blocked articles without subscription.

Recently I tried this old method of passing a paywall, and it can still function perfectly.

Using the Google Translate as a paywall remover is not that popular, because it can work with only a few  websites.

With this simple way to read paid articles for free online, you do not have to install any browser extension, or fiddle with the filter syntax.

How to use Google Translate to bypass paywall

This tutorial is how to get past the paywalled English language articles.

Here are the steps:

Go to Google Translate site set for Websites.

Select "Detect language" on the left side of the page.

On the right side, pick any language of your choice.

For example, I want to read this blocked article from The Atlantic site, "Emily in Paris Doesn’t Need a Makeover".

Paste the article URL in the Website box, then click the arrow icon (Translate).

Instantly the full complete article together with the smiling actress Lily Collins.

Anyway, this is the Google Translate URL:

https://www-theatlantic-com.translate.goog/culture/archive/2024/08/emily-in-paris-season-4-review/679543/?_x_tr_sl=auto&_x_tr_tl=en&_x_tr_hl=en-US&_x_tr_pto=wapp&_x_tr_hist=true

It works well when I translated it by per article URL.

In other words, you can only do it with one article at a time.

The only site which can be done with the web homepage domain, is the Loeb Classical Library

From my brief try-out, I found these few websites work with this Google Translate method: Quora, Loeb Classical Library, New York Magazine, Wired, Forbes, The Atlantic, and The Hindu.
